Dr. Salomi Papadima Sophocleous

salomi-papadima-sophocleousThe CUT team is led by Dr. Salomi Papadima Sophocleous, Director of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) Language Centre. She holds a BA in French Language and Literature, Postgraduate diplomas in teaching Greek and French as a Second Language (L2), and TESOL, an MA in L2 curriculum development and evaluation, an MLit. in French, a postgraduate diploma in Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and a DProf in Applied Linguistics, Language Online Testing, with significant emphasis on multicultural issues.

She has over 30 years experience in second/foreign language (French, Greek, English and Italian) teaching to culturally diverse students in secondary and tertiary education for many years and has experience in living and working in multicultural environments in Europe and Australia.  She also has experience in printed and digital curriculum development and evaluation, testing, CALL, and multicultural education, first in secondary (including Multicultural concerts organiser, Multicultural sub-committee and ethnic teacher Aide convenor) and then in higher education (La Trobe University, RMIT University, Intercollege, University of Nicosia, CUT). She has taught ‘Teaching Greek, French and English as a Second/Foreign Language’, CALL, Curriculum Evaluation and Development and Testing and run training courses for language teachers on those subjects in Australia, Greece and Cyprus (on campus, blended and online). She was examiner and chief examiner for Victorian Certificate of Education in Victoria (Greek and French), Australia for more than 20 years. She was examiner for a master dissertation entitled Multiculturalism and Globalisation in Nicos Kavvadias’s Poetry.

She has considerable experience of assessment and placements in languages having developed the New English Placement Test Online (NEPTON), used at the University of Nicosia since 2005. She is a member of the Curricula Review Committee for Languages and the Examination Council for the Review and Improvement of Language Practices in Cyprus of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus and she is responsible for the Language Testing Services at CUT. She participated in a Grundtvig project, which focused on creativity, innovation, new technologies, languages and interculturality.

Her research interests and publications evolve around Language Curriculum Evaluation and Development, CALL, Language Teacher Training and Testing, Multicultural Education and more recently on Language programme Quality Control. She has also developed printed, online and electronic language teaching and intercultural education materials.

Ms Anna Nicolaou
Researcher

anna-nicolaouAnna Nicolaou is Special Teaching Staff at the Language Centre of the Cyprus University of Technology. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature and an MA in English Language Studies and Methods. She has taught English for academic and specific purposes to culturally diverse students in tertiary education for many years. One of her main research interests is Multicultural and Intercultural Education. She has participated in a project funded by the Research Promotion Foundation in Cyprus, which aimed at identifying teachers’ and students’ attitudes toward multiculturalism in the secondary public school system in Cyprus, and at developing cultural awareness through training seminars. She also participated in a Grundtvig project, which focused on creativity, innovation, new technologies, languages and interculturality.

Ms Antigoni Parmaxi
Researcher

antigoni-parmaxiAntigoni Parmaxi is a Special Scientist at the Cyprus University of Technology Language Centre specialised in teaching Greek as a second/foreign language. She is experienced in teaching Greek as a second language to culturally diverse students, to Erasmus students at the University as well as to immigrant populations in Cyprus. Through the use of new technologies she has developed printed and online educational material as well as a short Greek survival kit for her culturally diverse students. Her research interests include subjects such as multicultural education, Lifelong Learning and Computer Assisted Language Learning. Antigoni Parmaxi has attended several conferences and projects on multiculturalism and has conducted studies pertaining to multiculturalism, intercultural conflicts in Cyprus and language teaching and learning. She participated in a Grundtvig project, which focused on creativity, innovation, new technologies, languages and interculturality.

Mr Dimitrios Boglou

Researcher

dimitrios-boglouDimitrios Boglou is Special Teaching Staff at the Language Centre of the Cyprus University of Technology. He holds a BA in German Language, an MA in TESOL/TEFL and an MA in Multimedia Didactic. He has taught English and German for academic and specific purposes to culturally diverse students in tertiary education for many years and has experience in living and working in multicultural environments in Europe and the USA. One of his main research interests is CALL and Multicultural and Intercultural Education. He also leads and organises multicultural events with the Cyprus University of Technology student club “Foreign Language and Cultures”. She participated in a Grundtvig project, which focused on creativity, innovation, new technologies, languages and interculturality.

Οι γλώσσες που προσφέρονται είναι: ελληνικά, αγγλικά, γερμανικά, ιταλικά, ισπανικά και γαλλικά.
